"Indeed whosoever purifies
himself shall achieve success, and remembers (glorifies) the name of his Lord
and prays" Quran 87:14-15
Pay your Zakat al-Fitr before Eid
gives it before the salah [of 'Eid], it is an accepted zakat,
whoever gives it after the salah, it is to be regarded as sadaqah."
[Recorded by Abu Dawud]
Zakat al-Fitr is required of all members of a family:
(a) as a protection against their shortcomings and
(b) for sharing happiness with the needy.
For the past few years New England imams
suggest $10 per person as Zakat al-Fitr (please re-confirm with your local
Imam for Y2017).
Soon after the Eid, some Islamic centers and masajid share with MCSS a part of the money they collect. However, for the needy to enjoy the Eid, MCSS distributes the money in advance to them in mid Ramadan. If some money is left over, MCSS spends it on MCSS monthly food drive.
